Matt Fortnam

Matt contributes to work package 2 in the Converge project. Matt is also studying for a PhD at University College London exploring coastal environmental governance and community resilience to extreme floods.

Matt has a broad range of experiences and interests. He has worked on a variety of research projects at the University of Bristol (UoB), including RISKBASE, a EU FP6 project on risk-based river basin management. As a consultant for UNEP-WCMC, Matt was lead author of the response options chapter for the UK National Ecosystem Assessment in 2010/2011. In the past, Matt worked for the United Nations Environment Programme’s Global International Waters Assessment and was a contributing author of the Global Environment Outlook 4.

Matt is very active in converting ideas and theory into practical projects. His involvement in public outreach at UoB led him to found Ecojam.org, which is now the largest sustainability network in Bristol with 4500 members. Matt is also a trustee of a charity, Frank Water, which establishes community-owned drinking water projects in India.
